This program is held in Brazil’s National Parks, managed by the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (IMCBIO), which is linked to the Ministry of Environment. ICMBIO promotes and executes programmes of research, protection, preservation, and conservation of biodiversity and controls the environmental police for the protection of federal Conservation Units. Its mission is to protect natural heritage and promote socio-environmental development.
There are an enormous range of activities that the international volunteers can contribute to in the national parks. They can be engaged in the following thematic areas:
- environmental research and monitoring;
- environmental protection;
- social-environmental management;
- land regularisation;
- public use and business.
You, the volunteer may choose the area that best fits your personal interest and profile, but the national park may offer a different area, depending on its most urgent needs. All details can be discussed.
These parks are composed of incredible natural landscapes, and each year they receive thousands of tourists looking for good trekking and professionals engaged in high-level research.
You may be placed in one of the following parks:
- Parque Nacional Serra do Cipó – Minas Gerais state
- Parque Nacional do Itatiaia – Rio de Janeiro state
- Parque Nacional da Serra dos Órgãos – Rio de Janeiro State
